Same thing happens often here, even for drivers who have no habit of breaking traffic rules. Do not realize that this U turn is against normal safety rules. Read story below: It is a misleading cut of large width below the overhead flyover at the crossing. Many drivers use it as a bypass to the main crossing red lights. Take left turn which is free, then a quick right turn gets you the cut below the flyover. The trick is that this is only a U turn for traffic coming from other side and wanting to go back. To take this you have to go almost right across to the right after taking the free left turn, cutting across fast traffic from the right turn of the main crossing. It being India, the natural thing is what most people like to do. Traffic police should install large sized warnings before the free left turn and also at the wrong side entry of the U turn. Instead of prevention, they believe in catching people who do the wrong thing. The traffic safety department should be an independent body having nothing to do with the traffic police. Safety is for prevention, and police is for punishment. Both are required but not the same kind of work.
